Mansun were an English indie rock band, formed in Chester in 1995. The band comprised vocalist/rhythm guitarist Paul Draper, bassist Stove King, lead guitarist/backing vocalist Dominic Chad, and drummer Andie Rathbone. Originally named Manson after mass murderer Charles Manson. When they signed to Parlophone, they were asked to change their name due to threatened legal action by the Charles Manson Estate, so they substituted the "O" for a "U", and one of the stories they put out was that they were named after the Verve song "A Man Called Sun".

The band's first single, Take It Easy Chicken in 1995 was sent to John Peel and Steve Lamacq who played the song on BBC Radio 1, to Draper's surprise:
"I couldn't believe it when I first heard them play the song, we'd never played a gig, could hardly play live and had no record deal". [1]
Mansun covered Magazine's Shot By Both Sides as a session track for the 19 December 2000 show to celebrate 25 years of the Festive Fifty.
