Hm, so the leadig "The" is unwanted here for what I understand is for some sort of backward compatibility as the Peel-Wiki grew that way.
I don't think this is right, as the artists chose their name and in most cases it makes a huge difference if it's "Fall" instead of "The Fall".
What about the syntax I found in some cases with the vertical bar? eg: Fall|The Fall. In that case the shown name would be correctly "The Fall" and the internal link would be "Fall". Or is that causing the same problem on the artist page?
Many thanks for your message and I understand your point. Yeah, there are ways around it, but as much as possible all the pages so far have been done the same way (and we're up to 6000 or something),.
There are odd ones sometimes that slip through, though, if people don't know the style, so for bands with "The" in the title we have redirect pages (going to "Fall" for example if the link is to "The Fall"). What would be best and fastest probably, to keep everything looking the same, is to change the 2 percent that are "The Fall" to "Fall" rather than to start changing everything else the other way. It's a matter of having limited time, though.
that kind of leaves my question unanswered: Is it OK to use the vertical bar to have "The Black Keys" shown on the page, but linked to "Black Keys"? You can check out my last changes to 08. April 2003.
Or do I have to worry someone else feels the need to correct that too?
Thanks for your message. I'd prefer it if you didn't - as the vast majority of artist names that appear don't have "The" in front. I don't really see the point. I really think it's best to try and keep the style the same on all pages ias much as we can.
There doesn't seem any point changing say Black Keys to The Black Keys on one page, when it's already in the general site style. Yeah, sure the link connects to the "Black Keys" page - so why not just leave it as "Black Keys"?
PS I really apprecaite you're trying to help out and make the site better, and all kinds of things would be a real help. For exmple, would be really great if you could make Artist pages for ones we don't have. Or on tracklistings pages, add Peel quotes if there's available audio, or add Disocgs links for releases, sessions details, etc. Or add to the sessions releases pages in the Discography secton. All kinds of stuff to do really.
Hi there! I've noticed that you've amended some track listings recently and added "the" to band names. It's the Peel wiki house format style to leave these off. I know it sometimes looks a bit odd, but otherwise on the artists page there would be a huge list of groups beginning "the...". That's the reason for it.
