Ah, I see there were two sessions! I just went to the Wiki's own Nico page, saw there was just one session, from 1974, saw the track Janitors Of Lunacy was listed in that, and thought that's all I need. the BBC Keeping It Peel site also just lists the one session. The one and only time I've not gone on Ken's book which would have told me there was an earlier session, also with Janitors of Lunacy...
Yes, the BBC site is a useful source, but I learnt some time ago to always check Ken's book!
I'm really enjoying these 1981 shows, both quality and content. I thought the Musical Youth session was cracking... interesting to hear dad on vocals before he stepped down to bring more, ahem, youth into the fold. I did notice a slight jump 25 seconds into the track Johnny Too Bad...do you know if this was present on the tape, or occured during digitisation?
Many many thanks for so many new pages cataloguing Max's newly available shows! A great help indeed. One very small point, he tells me he prefers to be known as max-dat, as the new profile was created in a hurry when he lost his original login details!
Tracklisting is going to prove a big challenge later. From 1999 week 12 onwards, most shows seem to have been uploaded as individual tracks, i.e. 40+ files per show. The Mooo server currently seems to have a limit of two concurrrent downloads, so it will take ages to download shows. Is there a way around this? Can the show files be combined on the Mooo?
It's OK Pad, I've discussed this with Max and he is going to rejoin the files and upload them again, as I expressed the general view that it's easier to list them that way. I would refrain from trying to download or track list until he's been able to complete this. There are still plenty of World Service, BFBS and Radio Bremen files to satisfy your Peelian thirst if you're at a loose end ;-)).
I do have a slightly longer recording, from the start of the show to about 20 seconds into the Smiths track. No idea where I got it from - my directory tells me I've had it since April 2005. Sounds to me slightly more distorted than Marks tape ... but it does include a Fall track! I'll happily upload and inform the Peel Group.
Looking through my records, I've found I also have Peel tribute shows from Annie Nightingale (29 Oct 2004, 120m) and Andy Kershaw (31 Oct 2004, 80m, Radio 3). Is it worth documenting these on the Wiki?
Think we're coming to the point of meeting up in 1981, although maybe there are a few odd categories to add to pages from other years.
Think there are five left to do from 1981:
2 March (all)
9 March (part)
25 March (part)
21 April (nearly all)
22 April (part)
Hope we can avoid tripping over each other. Will start from the bottom (22 April) and look to work my way up maybe. Should be OK if we just start the pages with the first track or two, so the others know who's doing it.
2 March 1981 done, although it turned out to be really 4 February 1981. Do you have a quick way of finding out what is still outstanding and links to the relevant Facebook pages? I'm using trial and error at the moment, and the errors are on the increase as we're nearing the end!
