Thanks Stuart, we're very excited to find this site. Are there any rules around what can and can't be posted? We are setting up a Russians website soon hopefully with lots of material so assume mutual links to and from this site would be OK? Also because of the Russians, mainly, we have a facebook group dedicated to the Northampton music scene in the 70s/80s on which Peel has been mentioned a few times because of his links with the Paddock & Nags Head, Wollaston. If anyone finds their way here because of the Russians they may be interested in that so with permission it might be nice to post a link. Cheers Ian & Julie
Hi Ian & Julie. I'm sure links would be fine, it was Steve W who set up the site so if there are any rules then they will be his! The welcome message is automatic and it's whoever was the last of the three admins to sign in that it's attributed to.
Did you manage to listen to your session on the show linked to on the site or did you already have a recording?
Just a quick correction: Adam is the founder of the site - Steve, Stuart and myself are admins. Nevertheless, exciting to have primary sources, like the ones I solicited from members of Harvey's Rabbit and American TV Cops. Thanks, Ian and Julie!!!!
Have added the Facebook link to the Russians band page. Seems fair enough as it's related to the subject, with bits of Peel as well (check out Peel DJ poster from early 70s, posted Dec 2013 - need to sort out details for Gigography).
Yeah, Steve TK is right - Adam definitely founded the site. Steve TK also posted stuff here before I ever did.
For what it's worth, my take on the original question is it's OK to post anything that seems related to the subject of the page, particularly if related to Peel (as long as the length isn't too excessive).
Thanks guys. How do we find the Peel DJ poster? Sorry for ignorance. We're just finalising the band biography and Julie's memories of the gig & session. Hope they're not considered excessive. We've put a few pics up too but they seem to go where they want, not where we want them! Again, hope they're not considered excessive. Most are from the gig at The Paddock, we have a lot more but just selected a few. If we do anything wrong or get carried away in our excitement, please let us know.
It's up! We'll try and complete the memories tomorrow. Apologies, I ddn't realise the DJ poster was on our facebook group! I thought you meant on here. There was a BBC Northampton documentary about the Nags Head with references to Peel's regular visits and friendhip with Big Bob and how he arranged for Rod Stewart and The Faces to play there! If it's not already on here, I can post a link if you tell me where's best.
Have had a go at the layout for the current history, although some of Julie's memories could probably go in there too, so might be more adjustments later.
On the gig pics, not sure which one you thought might be best out - the one that looks a lot darker than the others? Maybe you could let me know by the current position (eg, second row, center.
In terms of volume of the gig pics, wondering if it might be good to have one for each band member and then a kind of joint one of them all in action together. Maybe you could let me know what you think - with suggestions for keepers?
Could also maybe simplify the captions to avoid repetition if we give the event details at the top or something.
PS Maybe as the first sentence/paragraph of the band history, we should also have that they did a Peel session and a gig with him and also released a single. Just so people quickly get the idea- then can go on to explain details, etc.
Thanks for sorting the layout, it looks much better and all the photos line up with the appropriate text. To that end, we've replaced the single poster with the cassettes. Good suggestions above so we've expanded the intro paragraph as suggested and added a heading for the gallery. The photo to delete is the one darker than the rest, yes please, the one without the caption, bottom left (inferior duplicate of top left). We'll let you know which other photos to delete asap but we've trimmed the captions on all of them. The session memories are almost there. Cheers J & I
PS To delete one of the gallery pics, you open up the gallary editor (below the pictures on the page) hover the curser over the top right of the picture and you should see a delete option that you can click on. Once you've finished, just save the changes.
Sorry, we had to put Julie's memories on hold due to illness but we'll get them done now. I tried to delete the pics but all I could see under the gallery was a link to "Add a photo to this gallery". When I click on that and hover the cursor over the pictures nothing appears. Am I doing it wrong or don't I have permissions?
PS if it's any use, I found out that the Faces gigs at the Nags Head Wollaston were on 15 Jan '71 (cancelled) and 27 May '71. John Peel was definitely at the first according to the radio documentary and I assume he was at the 2nd as well unless he couldn't be. Source: Ron Wood database.
Thanks for message - have changed the pics as requested (I think).
Yeah, remember on the radio doc on the Nags Head that the Faces didn't turn up the first time, when Peel was there, but rescheduled when he couldn't come. Do have a Gigography section on the site, so will check to see we have the dates - cheers for those.
