Minimal Compact was an Israeli New Wave band from Tel Aviv founded in 1981 by Malka Spigel (bass, vocals), Samy Birnbach (vocals, texts) and Berry Sakharof (guitars, keyboards, vocals), who left the city for Amsterdam, Netherlands to further their ambitions in their music careers. The band recorded a 2-song demo and sent it to Belgian's Crammed Discs record label, who were one of their early artists to be signed and recorded their first album in Belgium. While their second album was recorded in London, the band invited Dutch drummer Max Franken to join the group and later Israeli Rami Fortis joined the lineup. After nine albums, the group split in 1988 and since then have reunited on several occasions, concentrating on gigs mainly in Israel.
Links To Peel[]
Peel heard the group through the Crammed Discs label and supported them in the early 80's. The band did a session for Peel's show in 1985, but by the late 80's, the group got rarely played by him on his shows and in 1988 the band split.
