John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

NErvous With Germans reform

Nervous Germans is a German new wave rock band formed in 1980. In 1981, they released their debut album Nervösen Deutschen (English release: Desolation Zone, 1982). Their second Album Summer of Love (1983) was also their last, as they disbanded on 1 July 1984 in the aftermath of a concert in Linnich (with Mitch Ryder). The Name was suggested to Micki Meuser by Alex Londner (Aachen, Germany), possibly in view of Germany being a nuclear battlefield after the NATO Double-Track Decision.

The group originally consisted of Australian lead singer, Grant Steven, and the rest Germans:

  • Micki Meuser (bass, vocals)
  • Manni Holländer (real name Manfred Herten; guitar, vocals)
  • Edgar Liebert (a.k.a. Edgar de Gaulle; drums, vocals)
  • Grant Stevens (lead vocals)
  • Wolfgang Gunnewig (guitar)

Meuser and Stevens reformed Nervous Germans in 2012 with Gary Schmalzl on guitar & Sabine Ahlbrecht on drums. They subsequently toured twice with Billy Idol opening the shows in Germany.

Links to Peel[]

Peel had the group do a session for his show in 1980 before they released any records. However, after 1980, there doesn't seem to be any airplay of the group on his shows, according to available tracklistings on this site.

Ken Garner's The Peel Sessions book mistakenly labels their repeated session on 16 December 1980.
