Nocturnus was an American progressive death metal band formed in Tampa, Florida in 1987 by drummer/vocalist Mike Browning (formerly of Morbid Angel). They were known for their science-fiction themed lyrics and use of keyboards, both of which were virtually unknown in extreme metal at the time. The group split in 1993 before re-uniting in 2000 and splitting again in 2002.
Links To Peel[]
Peel played material from the band's The Key album but on his 20 October 1990 show compared their hairstyles to those of the Austrian World Cup football squad. On his 10 November 1990 (BFBS) show, he suggested the band's record company would be wise not focus marketing efforts on their limited visual appeal:
"I think the record company should not have put pictures of the band into the sleeve because they don't look right at all, they really don't look right. I mean, neither do I but there's not much I can do about it apart from dramatic remedial surgery, but they look quite wrong."
