Notsensibles

Notsensibles are a punk rock band from Burnley, England, who had their greatest success with their second single, the tongue-in-cheek "I'm in Love with Margaret Thatcher". The band was formed in 1978 by Michael "Haggis" Hargreaves (vocals), Steven "Sage" Hartley (guitar), Roger "Rog Sensible" Rawlinson (keyboards), Gary Brown (bass), and Kevin "Ploppy" Hemingway (drums). The band explained their approach: "all we want to do is make silly records and play silly gigs".

Peel first played the band's single, 'Death To The Disco' in the spring of 1979. After the victory of Margaret Thatcher as British prime minister, the band released their follow up, 'I'm In Love With Margaret Thatcher', which became one of Peel's favourite records of that year, despite not being a fan of her. During that year, the band also recorded a session for his programme. In 1991 played the same track as 'a tribute to the future Earl Mark', a reference to the fact that Denis Thatcher, her husband, had been given a baronetcy (still the only one awarded since 1964) and son Mark would inherit the title.
