
Novak were an English indie band from Birmingham founded in 1995 consisting of David Gerrard (keyboards, percussion), Jeremy Hepburn (guitar), Kirsten Morley (bass), Philip Robinson (drums), Jane Smith (guitar), Tamsin Snell (flute, harmonica etc) and Adele Williams (vocals, glockenspiel). The group released several singles before releasing their final album, Novak, in 1999, before splitting up.

Peel first played the band's material in the spring of 1997, where he played their Rapunzel track. Further material were played by the DJ, including a session in 1999 they did for his show. However, after their final album, no material from the group were played on his programmes. Drummer, Philip Robinson later joined Buick 6, a band that also did a Peel session, but he was replaced before their session in 2002.
