Overlord X (Benjamin Balogun) is a hip hop artist from Hackney, London UK. Overlord X started off as a two-man group for their first released track ("Let There Be Rock" which featured a second MC who would release a track as Dark Heart two years later) but went solo after the first 12". He got a record deal with Island Records who then also created a sublabel for Overlord X and other X-Possee members, Mango Street. A third album, called “Mind Of A Menace” was recorded but remained unreleased when Island dropped the Mango Street sublabel in 1992 and Benjamin Balogun decided to end his career as Overlord X.
Links to Peel[]
Peel first came to attention of Overlord X in 1987, when he invited him to do a session for his show later in the year. He returned to the show to do another session in 1988, by now having joined Sir Preme T to record four further tracks. Due to the attention he received on the show, Mango record label under the sub-label of Island signed him on and started to release his records, which also got played on Peel's programmes. Listeners on Peel's show also voted the track 14 Days In May at number 28 in the 1988 Festive Fifty.
