Pay TV was a Swedish electro synth pop group that had its breakthrough in the Swedish Melodifestivalen (Melodifestivalen is an annual song competition organised by Swedish public broadcasters Sveriges Television (SVT) and Sveriges Radio (SR). It determines the country's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest, and has been staged almost every year since 1959) in 2004 with the song Trendy Discotheque, which was eliminated and ended up in sixth place in the second heat. They also participated in Melodifestivalen 2005 with Refrain Refrain which also did not get a good placement. Despite this, Pay TV had become big in the LGBT community with its synthetic trash disco. Married couple Ulrika and Håkan Lidbo were behind the project and the singers, who went by aliases, were musical artists in civilian life and called themselves Claudia Cash (Anna Widing), Neena Fatale (Thérèse Andersson) and Chanelle Ferarri (Fatima Edell), all trained at the Ballet Academy in Gothenburg.
Links to Peel[]
Peel mentioned on his 18 May 2004 show that last week, he and Louise the producer spent almost two complete days going through boxes of unheard CDs that were stacked up around Peel Acres and one of the things that was discovered was a single by Pay TV, which got it's first airplay on the show with the track Trendy Discotheque. The song was played twice more on Peel's shows during the spring of 2004. The people behind the group's project included Hakan Lidbo, whose music was played by Peel on his programmes.
