John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Pond

Pond was an American alternative rock band from Portland, Oregon, founded in 1991 and split up in 1998. They were signed to Sub Pop (first two albums) and the Work Group records sub-label of Sony Records (last album). The band consisted of Charlie Campbell (guitar, vocals), Chris Brady (bass, vocals) and Dave Triebwasser (drums). According to Sub Pop's website, the band's highlights included Pond’s performances at the 1992 New Music Seminar which got ecstatic reviews in the British press and their debut single, Young Splendor/Tree, getting Single Of The Week in the Melody Maker. On October 23, 2010, Pond reunited for a show to commemorate the closing of Portland club Satyricon.

Links to Peel[]

Pond was first played by Peel in 1992 during the peak of grunge's popularity, which the band was mainly associated with. He would continue play their material well into the mid 90's, when grunge was at its decline.

On his 19 September 1992 show, Peel mentioning failing to see Pond perform in Norwich, due to having had a row with son William. By the end of 1992, the band's popularity with some of Peel's listeners, led to their track, Young Splendor, entering the 1992 Festive Fifty.

In 1994, two of the band's Peel session tracks were released on the various artists compilation album, The John Peel Sub-Pop Sessions 1989-1993, but JP didn't seem to play any of the Pond tracks from that LP on his shows.
