- (This page is about the British punk band. For the electronic artist of the same name, see Resistance(2)).
The Resistance was an English punk band formed in 1976 in the seaside town of Crosby, Merseyside and was initially comprised of Mark Damron (vocals, guitar) and John O'Leary (bass) . Through John, the duo were introduced to Resistance manager and key mentor Viv Broughton (now a successful East End recording studio entrepreneur). The band all re-located to London and auditioned for drummers and ultimately found 15-year old Martin Saunders who became the anchor of the band. The group became a 3-piece and began to get regular gigs and gather steady momentum. In 1978, their school friend, classically-trained keyboardist Iain Reid joined the band becoming a 4 piece and this lead to significant support gigs, radio play and a major recording and publishing deal.

Links to Peel[]
Peel seemed to have heard the band's debut single, 'Kidnapped', in early 1979. Impressed by their material, he invited the group to do a session for his show in May of that year. Further tracks from the group were played on his radio programmes and a second session was broadcast in early 1981.
