- (This page is about the US record label. Peel also played tracks on the UK-based reggae label of the same name.)

Rhino Entertainment Company is an American specialty record label and production company founded in 1978. It is currently the catalogue division for Warner Music Group.
Founded in 1978, Rhino was originally a novelty and reissue label during the 1970s and 1980s. It released compilation albums of pop, rock & roll, and rhythm & blues successes from the 1950s through the 1980s, as well as novelty-song LPs and retrospectives of famous comedy performers,
Rhino was quick to get into the compact disc market, releasing dozens of oldies CDs at the dawn of the CD age in 1984. In the late 1980s, Rhino transitioned into a complete entertainment company specializing in home video reissues of television programs, as well as compact disc releases of select artists and movie soundtracks.
in 1992, Rhino signed a new distribution deal with Atlantic Records, and in turn Time Warner bought a 50 percent stake in the record company. In 1998, Time Warner bought the other half of Rhino, making the company a wholly owned unit of Time Warner.

Go to Rhino Records - Wild Man Fischer
At the end of 1976, the first-ever (all-time) Festive Fifty included at #48 'Go To Rhino Records' by long-time Peel favourite Wild Man Fischer. Intended originally as a promotional giveaway for the discount Los Angeles record shop name-checked in the title, the 1975 single was also the debut release of the Rhino Records label. Fischer was a regular visitor to the store.
As a small US independent, Rhino picked up occasional Peel plays through the 1980s, with releases by offbeat artists such as WMF and Temple City Kazoo Orchestra, as well as records by local groups, especially high-quality re-issues of vintage California surf bands (including Dick Dale & The Del-Tones; and the Crossfires, who became the Turtles).
Perhaps surprisingly, by the late 1990s the humble LA operation had blossomed into the catalogue arm of Warner Music, which was a major industry player. An early mover in the CD re-issue market, Rhino came under the wing of the giant corporation after a series of distribution and tie-up deals -- most importantly in 1992 with Warner group label Atlantic Records -- which left it well placed to capitalize on booming demand to replace vinyl.
While Peel wasn't keen on the new technology, his show playlists came to feature choice items from the flood of long-forgotten music newly made available by Rhino from the huge Warner group archives, including rarities and previously unreleased material. Favourite albums included 'I'm Going To Do What I Wanna Do: Live At My Father's Place 1978' by Captain Beefheart, double CD career anthologies for John Fahey and Dick Dale, the 'Made In USA' soundtrack by Sonic Youth, and v/a compilations with Christmas themes.
There were also Peel plays for Rhino releases by artists including Wedge, Valley Girls, Joe Tex, Elmore James, Phil Ochs, Ruth Brown, Slim Harpo, Lovin' Spoonful, Sam & Dave, and Buffalo Springfield.
In the new century, Peel session tracks from previous decades featured on Rhino boxsets for UK bands such as Echo & the Bunnymen and The Smiths.
In his 2013 memoir The Rhino Records Story: Revenge Of The Music Nerds (SelectBooks), Rhino co-founder Harold Bronson recalled that the shop pressed up an extra thousand copies of 'Go To Rhino Records' by WMF to sell after Peel played the promo single on his UK radio show.[1]
