Rock Week was a Radio One show presented by Peel on Saturday afternoons from 5.00-6.30 pm that ran from 04 January 1975 to 20 September 1975. Produced by John Walters, it was listed as "John Peel with news, views and comment on the Rock Week". [1] It was replaced in the Saturday teatime slot by a show presented by Paul Gambaccini.[1]
- In the schedules, Rock Week followed Alan Freeman's Rock Show, and a series of bizarre trailers were made for broadcast on Fluff's programme by Peel and Walters.
- The Complete Chronicle Of The Who contains the following entry for 1975-03-07: "At Broadcasting House, London, Pete recorded an interview with John Peel, previewing the Tommy soundtrack for a two and a half Radio 1 "Rock Week" special, broadcast 5:00-7:30 pm the following day." (The Radio Times listing for the extended show on 08 March 1975 appears at the BBC Genome site.[2])
- Immediately after Rock Week on 03 May 1975, Peel also introduced an In Concert programme featuring Bridget St John and Nic Jones.[3]
Availability[]
A part of January 1975 (Rock Week), 05 April 1975 and 10 May 1975 shows are the only ones so far that exist, although some of the Peel/Walters trailers for the programme on the Alan Freeman show that came before it on the schedule have also survived (see Peel And Walters Links). Please contact the Peel Mailing List if you have recordings you would like to share.
