Rufus is an American funk band from Chicago best known for launching the career of lead singer Chaka Khan. They had several hits during their career including "Tell Me Something Good", "Sweet Thing", "Do You Love What You Feel", and "Ain't Nobody". Rufus and Chaka Khan were one of the most popular and influential funk bands of the 1970s. Chaka Khan also pursued a solo career, which she became successful in the 80's.

Peel reviewed Rufus' record, 'Tell Me Something Good', and described it as a 'very good record' in Singles Reviews, published in Sounds on 7th September 1974. He would play material from the group and nominated their album, 'Rags To Rufus', as one of his Sounds Playlist for 21st September 1974. However, Peel never played any of Chaka Khan's solo material on his radio programmes.
