
Sandmen were an indie rock / postpunk / dub-influenced group based in Manchester, UK who formed in 1988 and were active through the mid-90s. The group played shows with The Fall, Inspiral Carpets, New Fast Automatic Daffodils, and The Family Cat, among others.
One lineup: Steve (bass), Gary (vocals), Shaun (drums), Pete (guitar).
Another lineup: Steve Baker (Bass), Richard Smith (Guitar), Patrick Luke Seaman (Vocals), Grant McDonald (Percussion, Backing vocals), Charlie Moore (Drums)

Peel was present at Manchester Polytechnic in September 1989 where New Fast Automatic Daffodils, Family Cat and the Sandmen were performing.
Peel first played the Sandmen on his radio programme in November 1990 via their single, 'Buffalo' EP. He had the band do a session for his show in 1993 and would play further tracks from the group in 1994.
Martin Platt, a member of the group also reviewed a football match between Stalybridge and Dover for Peel's show on 16 April 1994.
