- (This page is about the Belgian new beat artist. For the fusion band of the same name, see Shakti).

Shakti was the very first recorded project for Maurice Engelen aka Praga Khan and Jos Borremans aka Chris Inger, who later on became the Belgian newbeat and techno moguls with a dozen of simultaneous projects throughout the late 1980s and early-mid 1990s, most notably as the Lords Of Acid.
Shakti started as a gothic / New Wave sound influenced band, and gradually turned over to the more commercial euro-techno sound, adding Nikkie Van Lierop aka Jade 4U to their lineup. By this time, already recording under a few other guises, the Shakti project was abandoned.
The entire Shakti material, which consisted of one EP and one single, was compiled and released in 1990, in addition to a few more contemporary material from the era which was eventually released under the name of Jade 4U.
