Shu-De are a Russian Tuvan throat singing group from the Russian Republic of Tuva, north of Mongolia, consisting of members: Oleg Kuular, Mergen Mongush, Leonid Oorzhak, Boris Salchak, Nadezhda Shoigu and Alexey Shoigu. Not much is known about the group apart from recording their first album in 1994 called Voices from the Distant Steppe, followed by Kongurei in 1996. The group also appeared in various compilation albums featuring throat singing.

Peel would often play throat singing music on his show, with many coming from the Russian Republic of Tuva, who along with Mongolia, Tibet, and Siberia have a tradition of producing sounds through the throat. Peel seemed to discover the group through Real World Records through their compilation albums and Shu-De's music was often played on his show in early 1994.
