John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Signale Aus Der Schwabischen Strasse was a German documentary, broadcast on the SFB (Sender Freies Berlin) channel, based in Berlin, Germany on 23rd May 1976. The documentary was about the German band, Tangerine Dream, which includes informal interviews and concert/studio footage, most of which seems to have been done exclusively for the film. The interviews are in the German language. The Berlin street name (Schwabischen Strasse) in the title refers to where member Edgar Froese used to live in Berlin (apparently another member, Klaus Schulze, lived on the same street at the time).

Peel can be seen at 14:13 of the video and be heard dubbed in German between 19:24 and 19:43 of the video.

Peel makes an appearance in the programme, where he is dubbed in German, involving debating in a panel about Rock ‘n’ Roll music.

According to wiki user Eddie Berlin, who translated the German language dub of Peel speaking in the programme, Peel is shown objecting to the thesis that Rock'n'Roll is a primitive music (19:24 - 19:43)

"No, no, no, Rock'n'Roll is not primitive at all, but elemental, let's say it is originally. And the thing that bothers me most about your reasoning is that you bring Rock'n'Roll back to a level that comes suspiciously close to the scope of an 'art discussion', 'art' capitalised."

The panel included Tony Palmer (a music critic), Miles (a rock journalist), Edgar Froese (member of Tangerine Dream) and other people.
