John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Snapdragons

The Snapdragons (sometimes referred to as The Snapdragons UK, to distinguish them from the later US band of the same name) were an indie rock band from Leeds, England. They were led by their singer and main songwriter, James Taylor (not to be confused with The Prisoners mainman or the American singer-songwriter of the same name). They released two albums and four singles in the late 1980s and early 1990s, while signed to the independent record label,  Native Records.

Peel seemed to have first played the band's material in August 1989 via their debut album, 'Dawn Raids On Morality'. His BBC Radio One colleague, Simon Mayo, played the band's debut single a year before in 1988 and had them do a session for his show.

Peel would continue play the group's records until early 1990, as well as a session they recorded for his show in October 1989. He also mentioned on his 12 December 1989 programme that if he had the chance to vote in the 1989 Festive Fifty, he would vote amongst others, Snapdragons' 'Our Tune'. The song ultimately did not enter the 1989 Festive Fifty.
