John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Many thanks for the new page.

Possible can of worms - how to treat samples, remixes, mashups? Think fairly much they've been left off the covers page, but struck me that DJ Vinyl Junkie's "Can't Forget" (a big Peel fave) samples the Mariah Carey vocal of her UK #1 "Without You", which was in fact itself a cover of the Nilsson original (also a #1).

The Peel play isn't credited to Mariah Carey, so can't really say her "cover version" of a #1 was played, but DJ Vinyl Junkie didn't "cover" Mariah Carey, as I understand it.

Any thoughts?

Hi. Interesting idea - perhaps create a new section or even new page? I suppose that would depend on how many entries there are or could potentially be. I really wouldn't know what to call it!

What about the poor old No.2s???[]

Getting some strange ideas about this Official Charts list too........... ;)

You were right about that can of worms!!

My thought is not to take things on the chart covers further than we have now. And not do anything on the samples, remixes, mashups front.

I agree with Steve. Otherwise pages would be filled with Number 3, 4, 5, 6, etc.. number one cover versions. Also the samples, remixes, would be just too much.

OK fair enough. I started looking at the "No.2s" vis à vis Peel and there are quite a few. Perhaps I'll just keep the list for myself and put it on my own page without any linkage ... As you were!
