John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

John Peel: This is the introduction to an LP called "The Ghost Orchid". I'll read this very badly, as I always do, but I'll do my best:

The Parapsychic Acoustic Research Cooperative [PARC], in association with Ash International [R.I.P.] is proud to present the first ever fully comprehensive investigation into the paranormal phenomenon of EVP, otherwise known as Electronic Voice Phenomena. Without a doubt EVP falls into the category of the paranormal alongside other unexplained mysteries such as ufology, life after death, and poltergeist activity. But here for first time actual EVP recordings have been digitally remastered and presented with a comprehensive look at their possible origin. The listener is guided through a collection of strange and mysterious voices that have appeared without explanation onto the tapes of EVP researchers. Included with the CD is a 24 page booklet [...]

Actual voice samples are reproduced here for the first time on compact disc: Polyglot Voices, Public Service Broadcasting Interruptions and Singing Voices, Instant Response Voices and the extraordinary Alien Voices [....]

Are the voices extraterrestrial, paranormal evidence of our telepathic powers or an elaborate hoax perpetrated by sinister and powerful groups to mislead us from their true aims?

JP: Well, obviously make of it what you will, but essentially what they are saying, things just picked up from random from broadcast but entirely unrelated to those things. You may feel sometimes when you listen to aspects of these programs, that has been happening for many years right here on Radio One. But let's pretend that it hasn't, and I'll play you some of the alien voices from this LP. And I think you're going to – I mean, I shall occasionally drop other bits of it into the programme as well, because I think it is extraordinary stuff, and I think you will as well. I mean, obviously, there aren't any tunes in here, or if there are it's entirely coincidental. But here are some of those alien voices anyway, from "The Ghost Orchid"…
