A cassette compilation from the collection of Peel Group member mr_maudlin, recorded from the BBC Radio 1 John Peel Show but with no Peel links. These are tape to tape recordings using a Sony 'separates' cassette deck and midi system from a fairly good FM signal.
I didn't note the recording dates of individual tracks, the inlay card just says Jun-Aug 84.
Neither did I make any notes about the tracks themselves, other than marking the Gene Loves Jezebel track and Savage Progress ones as sessions. The dates next to these are worked out from Ken's book. The other track dates I've found by looking through the wiki for shows in the Jun-Aug period.
I really liked the Savage Progress session and bought their LP, but was disappointed to find it over produced (yet another band ruined by Virgin Records, something they seemed to do a lot of at that time). The March Violets/Misunderstood coupling was also great - I always loved it when Peely played a current release and followed it with something from the past with similar title or other link. As my musical year zero was 1979, anything from before then was building my musical knowledge and giving me a starting point to listen to new stuff. Of course in later years I would try and second guess what he would link the new release with.
