The Philistines Jr. is an American rock band from Connecticut. Active since 1990, the group has released four studio albums, the most recent being 2019's Help!. The Philistines Jr. was founded by brothers Peter Katis and Tarquin Katis, sons of Latvian immigrants alongside friend Adam Pierce. In addition to guitar, bass, and drums, their early records made use of keyboard instruments such as electric organ and toy piano.

In addition to the Philistines Jr., the group members also play in bands called Iris and The Zambonis. Peter Katis works as a producer, Tarquin Katis runs Tarquin Records, the band's own label, and Adam Pierce records under the pseudonym Mice Parade.

The Philistines Jr.'s early albums - Greenwich, CT (1991) and The Continuing Struggle of The Philistines Jr. (1993)—received critical acclaim and charted on college radio stations across North America. The band also received frequent airplay from John Peel on his BBC Radio 1 programme. Upon hearing their first album, Peel telephoned the band "just to say how much he liked the record" and invited them to record a Peel Session in London. [1] The band completed three Peel Sessions, including doing tracks such as Thank You John Peel and John Peel ID.
