John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Too Pure was a London-based independent record label formed in 1990 by Richard Roberts and Paul Cox. The label gained prominence after the release of PJ Harvey's debut album “Dry” in 1992, and subsequently found further success in the late 1990s and early 2000s with albums by indie rock artists such as Mclusky and Electrelane. The label was closed in 2008.

Links To Peel[]

Too Pure were one of Britain's leading indie record labels for over a decade from the early 1990s, with a roster that featured Peel session regulars and Festive Fifty mainstays from Hefner and French to Mouse On Mars, Mclusky and Voodoo Queens. Notable releases featured heavily by Peel included “Dry”, the debut LP by PJ Harvey, and the Long Fin Killie collaboration with Mark E. Smith “Heads Of Dead Surfers”, which the DJ selected for his 1995 Peelenium.

In 1992, the label was the first of four chosen for a series of dedicated 10”/CD Peel sessions compilations on Strange Fruit (followed by Amphetamine Reptile, Clawfist and Hut), with an all-star lineup of Maida Vale recordings by Th'Faith Healers, Stereolab and PJ Harvey. [1]

In the new century, singles and albums put out by Too Pure appeared regularly in the Peel's Record Box monthly picks that the DJ made for the BBC website.
