John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Topper

Topper was a Welsh psychedelic pop trio from Penygroes in North Wales, active between 1995 and 2001. The group originally consisted of Dyfrig Evans (guitar, vocals), Iwan Evans (bass, vocals) and Peter Alan Richardson (drums). Sion Glyn (guitar, vocals, 1999-2001) and Gwion Morris (keyboards, 1999-2001) later joined the group. They were one of a number of Welsh bands that arrived in the mid-90s in the wake of the success of the Manic Street Preachers, appearing on local labels like Ankst and Crai and recording mainly in the Welsh language. Topper's 'Arch Noa EP' was released in 1997, and was swiftly followed by the mildly-acclaimed mini album 'Something To Tell Her' and another, single 'Cwpan Mewn Dwr'. An appearance with their peers, Derrero and Melys on the 1999 Fierce Panda compilation 'Dial M For Merthyr' gave them some exposure, but the band were last heard of the 'Dolur Gwddw' album in October 2000.

Peel first played the band's material via the Arch Noa EP in January 1997. Impressed by their material, he invited the band to do a session for his show at the end of January of that year, where they performed three songs. A follow up was also recorded in June 1998, where they recorded five tracks. Between 1998 and 2000, Peel nominated some of their singles as records of the month for November 1998 (Peel's Record Box) and September 2000 (Peel's Record Box).
