Turbines

The Turbines was an American bluesy rock band formed in 1983 by John Hovorka (Vocals and Guitar), Jack Hickey (Guitar), Fred Nazzaro (Drums) and Dave Shibler (Bass). Signing to Big Time Records (America) Inc. they never really got going and left Big Time, after just one album released in 1985. Their second and final offering was released in 1987 by the French label New Rose Records.

Links to Peel[]

Peel discovered the group via Andy Kershaw who gave him their Last Dance Before Highway album in 1985. On his 05 November 1985 show, Peel mentioned that he will never forget Andy giving this LP.

Peel played tracks from the band on his shows due to his fondness of the twangy guitar in their songs. Even after they split, JP often played tracks from them well into the 90's and 00's.
