John Peel's XLNT - New Lang Syne
XLNT were, it appears, a German Happy Hardcore group: information about them is scant on the Internet. However, they did produce a 12 inch that became an occasional feature of Peel's playlists. New Lang Syne (b/w Turkish Trot) is a breakneck version of the Robert Burns song traditionally sung at New Year or indeed any other occasion where farewells are said (e.g. the Last Night of the BBC Proms). John called it "excellent" [1] and "one of the great daft records of all time." [2] He recommended that his listeners hear it "at something other than drawing room level." [3]
Peel tried to find the record, after a long period without airing it, for the 28 December 2000 show: "I thought, how neat it would be to start this programme with that to follow Steve (Lamacq)'s. But I couldn't find it: irritating. But life is like that, in so many ways. Make a note of that if you like." However, its appearance on 02 January 2001 testifies to his eventually doing so.
The only other trace that can be found of the band's activities is them acting as producers/participants on the track Genug, from the German rap outfit RaportaZ Family [4].
