Xdreamysts was a Northern Ireland based pub rock band from Belfast which was active during the late 1970s and early 1980s. The band was formed in 1978 and fronted by Uel Walls. He was supported by John Doherty [Guitar], Roe Butcher [Bass Guitar] and Brian Moffatt [Drums]. The quartet released a debut single 'Right Way Home' later that year on Good Vibrations Records.
The band was subsequently signed to Polydor Records in 1979. Fellow Belfast punk-rockers, Protex was also signed to the label at this time. Xdreamysts went on to release three singles for the label - 'Bad News' [1979], 'I Don't Wanna Go' [1980] and 'Stay The Way You Are'. The band was dropped from the label in 1980. The final single was later covered by the Q-Tips (which featured Paul Young on vocals).
The band managed to gain a release for its eponymously-titled debut album in Holland in 1980 before splitting in 1981. Roe Butcher went on to perform with The Mighty Shamrocks.
Links to Peel[]
On the Spit Records website, drummer Brian Moffatt recalled his experience of the band doing a session for Peel's programme:
"Doing a session for the John Peel show was a massive thing for us. It just didn’t get much better than that. Sadly the reality was a big let down. We turned up at Maida Vale Studios on 5th December 1979. There the designated Producer Ted De Bono and Engineer Nick Gomm read a newspaper the whole time as we were laying down the session. The resulting session was crap and to be honest, we were crap. It was a very disappointing day for us”. [1]
The session was broadcast in 1980 but later on in the year, the band officially split up.
